What we collect and why
BriefsDaily is a paid product; our only business model is the subscription. We collect what the product needs: your account email; the profile you build (interests with weights, followed entities, goals, learning tracks, source preferences, blocked topics, delivery preferences); the briefs we generate for you; your per-item feedback; delivery events for the emails we send; and billing state from Stripe. We record your consent to receive email at signup and at onboarding completion, with timestamp, IP address and browser user-agent, because the law asks us to be able to prove it.
Search queries leave the building
To research your brief we send search queries derived from your profile's content to our search providers, and profile content (in semantic form) to our model provider. That is inherent to what the product does, and we say it plainly here rather than in a footnote. We minimise it: prompts and queries never include your email address, IP, or payment identifiers. The full breakdown is on what we send to model providers.
Open tracking, disclosed
Our emails include a single invisible tracking pixel so we can tell whether briefs are being opened. It is the only image-based tracking in the product; there is no tracking on links' visible destinations, no session recording in the app, and no advertising identifier anywhere. Open data is unreliable by nature (some mail clients pre-fetch it, others block it), so we never make account decisions — like dormancy — on opens alone; dormancy requires 60 days with no opens, no archive visits, and no feedback clicks, after which we pause sending, ask once, and then stop.
How long we keep things
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Source excerpts and raw extraction | 30 days |
| Run diagnostics, scores and quality checks | 90 days |
| Model/search call telemetry (cost and latency only — no content) | 13 months |
| Email delivery events | 90 days |
| Story memory (what your briefs covered) | 30-day rolling window |
| Briefs and their items (your archive) | Life of your account; deleted with it |
| Consent records | Life of your account plus the statutory minimum |
Your controls
Everything is self-serve, from settings: edit any part of your profile, pause delivery, unsubscribe (also one click from any email, honoured immediately), export everything we hold about you (JSON and Markdown), and delete your account. Deletion takes effect immediately — billing cancelled, email stopped, scheduling stopped — with a 7-day recovery window, after which everything is permanently purged.
Sub-processors
Services that process data on our behalf:
| Provider | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | Model inference: receives the semantic content of your profile (interests, entities, goals) and extracted source facts. Never your email address, IP, or payment identifiers. API traffic is not used for model training by default. |
| Supabase | Database and authentication (your account, profile, briefs). |
| Vercel | Application hosting; standard request logs. |
| Resend | Email delivery: your email address, brief content, delivery/bounce/complaint/open events. |
| Stripe | Billing: your email, card details (held by Stripe, never by us), subscription state. |
| Brave Search | Web/news search: queries derived from your profile's semantic content. Not tied to your identity. |
| Exa | Semantic search and content extraction fallback: derived queries and public URLs. |
| Sentry | Error monitoring, with personal data scrubbed before sending. |
| PostHog | Product analytics: event names and coarse properties only — never interest labels, entity names, or brief text. |
